Hamburger Heaven has got to be one of those places in Alabama you need to go for a burger. It’s been around here for 25+ years and has a great history and tradition, as it was voted the #1 Hambuger by USA Today in 1992. This is a picture of the original location in Irondale, Alabama. Over the past 11 years, they have open 3 more and currently have four locations in the area. The newest three are Highway 280, Gardendale, and Homewood. Make sure you check out the Hamburger Heaven menu and go try one today.
Dinner time came last night to us with good friends at Salsaritas Fresh Cantina in Homewood Alabama. Salsaritas is fairly new to those of us who call Birmingham Alabama home, but they are quickly making a mark. Two restaurants have already opened: one in Alabaster and of course this one in Homewood. A third is on its way to the eastern side of town at the Eastwood Shopping Center.
A couple of days ago I was driving through Homewood Alabama and found a little piece of heaven on earth. Let me be precise though, the little piece of heaven on earth was not the place, but the bite of cake (or Baby Bites as they call them) that I put in my mouth. My first bite was of their Red Velvet Baby Bite. (Dennis Gregg, their General Manager, has been told its the best Red Velvet Cake in town, and it just may be!) The creator of this heavenly delights was the Pastry Arts Bake Shoppe. I have found out that even most of those who live in Homewood Alabama don’t even know they are there… yet! Hopefully they will soon, because they are surely missing out! For directions to Pastry Arts check here.
In Birmingham Alabama, in the Homewood Area, is Samford University. All those who live in Homewood Alabama know where Samford is. Samford University started as Howard College in Marion Alabama in 1841, moved to the East Lake area of Birmingham in 1887, and in 1957 it opened in its present location. In 1965 Howard College became Samford University named after its most generous benefactor, Frank Park Samford. It has been an recognized by U.S. News & World Report for the past 17 years.
Samford University is also home to Cumberland School of Law ( since 1961), McWhorter School of Pharmacy (since 1927), Brock School of Business (since 1965), Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing (since 1973), and Beeson Divinity School (since 1988).
Athletically, Samford University competes as part of the Southern Conference. Currently they have baseball, mens basketball, womens basketball, Cross Country Track, Football, men’s Golf, women’s golf, women’s Soccer, men’s Tennis, women’s tennis, Softball, Volleyball, Track and Field, and Cheerleading.
It’s hard to resist isn’t it? Doesn’t it look inviting? Here sits the swimming pool at West Homewood Park cool and refreshing and wanting to share itself with you. We know already that the pool at the West Homewood Park is already open. (Hours can be found at the link above.) If you live in Homewood Alabama be sure to go buy and give the pool a visit. It sure looks rather lonely up there!
It’s the weekend and time to relax and let loose a little. If this is your train of thought like it is mine, then you might want to gives Dave’s Pizza in Homewood a try. Now, let me say, you just don’t have to live in Homewood Alabama to give this place a try. I know for a fact that people come from all around the Birmingham area just to have a slice of pizza pie from Dave’s Pizza.
Continuing on during this beginning of June on our goodbye for the summer series, we are saying “Good Bye!” to schools this week since summer is here!
This is Shades Cahaba Elementary School, which is part of the Homewood Alabama School System. If you happen to have a little piece of Homewood AL Real Estate, you may either call Shades Cahaba Elementary School or any one of the other two elementary school home for part of the year.
Enjoy your summer!!
